DIGITAL REPOSITORY CASE STUDY
Course: INFO 284 – Tools, Services, and Methodologies for Digital Curation
Date: October 7, 2025
During my second semester in Fall 2025, I took INFO 284 – Tools, Services, and Methodologies for Digital Curation. The assignment required me to identify and describe the operation of a digital repository currently in use within 4-5 pages. Our professor, Alyce Scott, encouraged me to choose any repository that interested me and to look for supplementary reports and articles from various resources and/or contact persons currently working with the repository. I immediately chose to conduct a deep dive into the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB), a repository I had the privilege of interfacing with through my work in the public media ecosystem, gaining a preview of the ingestion and rights-securing process. Additionally, the assignment’s timing coincided with a hallmark moment within the public media ecosystem, occurring right after the federal rescission of funds towards the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a key player in this effort. I selected this report as my first demonstration of proficiency because I believe it represents my knowledge of current and emerging technological issues and trends and their impact on the information professions. This is especially true regarding the public broadcasting space, where I intend to apply my knowledge in the strategic management of digital assets and services. Understanding the development of the AAPB repository, including the general processes and workflows involved in the cultivation of broadcast assets and archival material for public media, will allow me to continue serving as a cultural bearer and steward of this work, protecting public media assets especially from degradation and obsolescence.
ARE YOU REPOSITORY-READY?
Course: INFO 284 – Tools, Services, and Methodologies for Digital Curation
Date: October 21, 2025
My second selected artifact is a project from my INFO 284 – Tools, Services, and Methodologies for Digital Curation course. The assignment required the analysis of a digital repository, and I chose one containing over 100 independent documentary films for an organization I collaborate with. This analysis allowed me to apply and transfer skills and knowledge directly to a current work situation. The experience, combined with the use of the USC Digital Repository Planning Worksheet, provided me with critical tools for future analysis in professional environments.
DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT PROJECT PLAN FOR IMPLEMENTATION
Course: INFO 282 – Digital Asset Management
Date: December 9, 2024
Lastly, for my final demonstration project of proficiency, I selected my culminating project for INFO 282 Digital Asset Management with Professor John Horodyski. This final project asked students to build upon the experience of the previous two projects and create a project plan for a digital asset management implementation. We were instructed to determine the assets (i.e., images, videos, graphics), the quantity, and the overall objectives for this imaginary DAM system. For this project, I applied some of the existing and readily available platforms I interface with daily, and proposed newer platforms and digital asset management software based on previous recommendations and research with digitally curating projects for public broadcasting.
