PBCORE – METADATA MINI-PROJECT ONE

Course: INFO 281 – Seminar in Contemporary Issues – Metadata

Date: April 8, 2026

The coursework that best demonstrates my knowledge is the one I completed most recently in my current course, INFO 281 – Seminar in Contemporary Issues: Metadata with Dr. Mary Bolin. This assignment gave us the opportunity to carry out a small metadata project, selecting parameters related to scheme, format, and environment, though we could explore beyond the suggestions. For this project, I selected PBCore for the metadata scheme, and short films or video for the format, specifically for ingesting into the American Archive of Public Broadcasting repository, a subject I covered last semester. This output encapsulates the thought-process behind the cataloguing of a short film collection and my understanding of data curation and management.

WEB ARCHIVING GAMING COMMUNITY SITES

Course: INFO 284 – Tools, Services, and Methodologies for Digital Curation

Date: December 5, 2025

One of the most rewarding projects I worked on was the final culminating group project for INFO 284 – Tools, Services, and Methodologies for Digital Curation during Fall 2025, which tasked us with creating and archiving a web collection. I had the privilege of working with teammates Jasdy Perillo, Cheyenne Perry, and Matthew Cartwright. Our group project required us to design, execute, and critique a web crawl on a topic of our choice using Archive-It to harvest and preserve a web-based collection. The tasks included scoping the collection, troubleshooting media file format issues, creating metadata, dealing with robot.txt files and copyright issues, and learning about the architecture of the web. We selected Gaming Community Sites as the overarching theme for our seed site web collection for Archive-It. This project captured my ability in long-term planning and project management, as well as showcased my ability to perform marketing work within or outside of an organization.

Course: INFO 282 – Digital Asset Management

Date: October 10, 2025

Lastly, for this final demonstration of application of fundamental principle learning, I selected the very first major project from my initial course in Strategic Management of Digital Assets and Services, taken in Fall 2024. This project highlighted the helpful and vital nature of digital media asset management. I chose it because it demonstrates my understanding of the concepts that comprise the management of collections of data or digital objects, including selection, evaluation, organization, and curation.
